Staff Bios

Synthia Shurtleff
Synthia started playing Cymbals at Texas State University under the direction of Julia Windle and Kari Klier. In 2014 Synthia Graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Psychology. Since then Synthia has been teaching cymbals with several groups in the Austin area: Austin High School, New Braunfels High School, Vista Ridge High School, Texas State University, Rhythmic force percussion, and Violet Crown Independent. Under the direction of Synthia, The Texas State Cymbal line won Best Cymbals at the 2014 PASIC competition, and Vista Ridge Cymbal line won Best Cymbal Line at the 2016 Dripping Springs Thunder in the Hills drum line contest. Synthia also teaches English Language Arts and Reading at Lockhart High School. In her spare time, she loves to read, drink coffee, and hang out with her cat. Synthia can’t wait to start her second season with Violet Crown Independent!
